July: Life Update + Wrap-Up

Hey there everyone!

I haven’t posted one of these since last year I think? Well for now I am motivated to show you guys my not so lengthy wrap up and life update post! I would like to say that July was a huge month for me!

Remember me talking about fresh new beginnings? Well I guess here it is, I finally decided to create a new bookstagram account and left my old one here are my reasons:

  •  the number of followers that I have (9.4k) seems unreal to me because only a few people see my posts and I only get to interact with a few people. I created my bookstagram account back then because I LOVE READING, that’s probably the main reason why. I rather interact more than have a lot of followings. The second reason is that I want to meet new people who share the same interest as I have. It’s great to talk to people who understands your “feels” whenever you just finished reading your new favorite book! This community is one of the best!
  •  I want to be more of myself, yes bookstagram has indeed changed. I saw it with my own eyes, 5 years ago it was just a small community now, WOW I am so proud of this book community. I have seen so many of my favorite bookstagrammers grow. I appreciate how all of you take the time and effort for your photos, I do admire people sharing photos of their current reads and recommendations. To be honest, there are some of you that made me buy a book because of your recommendations 😚
  • I want to share more books with all of you, both old and new releases. All the books that I love and didn’t like lol! I want to make this platform more real and authentic.

It’s hard to leave a community who has been a big part of your life. That’s why I made the decision to make a new account and start anew. Meet new faces but share the same love and passion for books!

Okay enough of this and let’s get onto my July Wrap-Up!

This month is a huge deal for me because I was on my A game, I read 14 books this month and it’s been a year since I last read more than 5 books. Clearly life has been happening to me aka ADULTING! With so many things running through my mind , reading is my only channel to relax and keeping myself sane.

Hamilton is always relevant people!!! 😀

The start of my 2017 did start with a bang, I hoarded books! Yup you seen that right, up until now I have sworn to myself that it’s time for me to be in a book buying ban. I mean come on so many great releases you want to buy as soon as they hit the shelves of your local bookstores and book websites that tempt you with their monthly releases! Shame on me/us for being too weak to SAY NO TO THIS!

Okay, okay I’ll stop now and proceed to my January-February book haul!

Bookish and non-bookish favorites

Pretty Girl-13 by Liz Coley (Book)

HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND! This was a terrific book, it was my first time reading a book that the main character was suffering from DID (multiple-personalities). It was a very heart-wrenching yet terrifying read, it tackled deep issues but the author did a great job handling every situation. I got hooked from the first page until the very end.

Criminal Minds (TV Show)p11858055_b_v8_ab.jpg

Lately I’ve been binge watching this awesome show, I’m currently on S05 now and I’m very proud of myself. I only started watching this show this month and I still need to catch up, need to marathon the 6 seasons remaining hehehe I CAN DO THIS! I can tell you that I’m really obsessed with the whole profiling thing, my favorite characters will always be Aaron Hotchner and Spencer Reid!

Calligraphy (Hobby)

So recently I tried hand-written calligraphy since I’m going to start my Bullet Journal this July, I needed to practice my creative hand writing 🙂 Hopefully I can do a lot better next time.

So there you have it my Monthly Wrap-up for June! What do you think about this post, should I do this every month? Tell me, what are your favorite books you’ve read this month? 😉

Book Hauls & Wrap-Ups · Uncategorized

Hey bookworms! Guess what? Even though October is my finals week at school I still managed to read 12 books! I’m proud of myself 🙂 October is such a good reading month for me, almost all of the books that I have read were pretty darn good and I read almost all of the books in my October TBR! Hooray, this is my first time following my TBR list. You do know how hard it is to follow this list right? So here are the books that I have reading during the month of October.

  • True Philippine Ghost Stories (Book #5, #11 & #14)

Another set of ghost stories of Filipino folklore and urban legends compiled into a series to give a little scare to those who dares to read it… at night.

A book that was written in Percy Jackson’s POV about some Greek Heroes. You’ll get to know how these demigods became a hero and you’ll see how crazy the Greek Gods are… I’m not kidding! I’ve written a review about this book, if you want to know my feels, check it out!

  • Kilig Republic #2: Seventh BF & Kilig Republic #7: The Closet I Got For You

Ahh these books are locally published here in the Philippines. Basically, these are just your typical kilig novels that will make you swoon even though the plot is cliche.

  • Girl Meets World by Claire De Guzman

This book is about a girl that thought she found true love and decided to travel across Southeast Asia to chase a guy she just met but instead of finding the guy that made her heart beat fast she found her true self. I miss these kind of Chic lits!

  • Only A Kiss by Ines B. Yao

Childhood bestfriends or childhood sweethearts? Bestfriends Katie and Chris has a cute love story to tell us. It’s all about first love, first heartbreak and first kiss.

  • Catacomb by Madeleine Roux

The final installment in the Asylum series, I have mixed feelings towards this book! I enjoyed the whole series, it was not that great but this book was just blehh! The whole story just dragged down towards the end. The ending was just not that satisfying for me… And the climax, wait was there a climax? I didn’t feel anything. Anyways I liked the series I just wish the plot could’ve been written well…

OH MY GODS! This book is just pure perfection!! Loved it, the plot, the characters, everything about this book is just right for me. You can know more on how I feel about this book through my review. IT’S JUST GREAT, HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT!

  • The Haunted by Niki Valentine

Woah! I didn’t see that one coming. This book just blew my mind, the plot twist was insane. This book is about  a married couple who decides to go on an adventure that led them to a small hut just across a river. Little did they know what lies inside the hut that will haunt them. If you’re looking for a psychological thriller this book is for you.

  • Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix by J.K. Rowling

Yes people, it is my first time reading the Harry Potter series. I LOVE IT SO MUCH! I’m questioning myself why I haven’t read this book back when I was in grade school, but I watched the whole movies though. God I’m so thankful that I’m finally reading the series.

  1.  Not In The Script by Amy Finnegan
  2.  The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkins

  4.  Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien
  5.  Infinite In Between by Carolyn Mackler
  6.  Dumplin by Julie Murphy

So this is my November TBR! I wouldn’t go much into detail about the books that I’m going to read. I’m so excited to read them, heard nothing but great reviews. I just hope I can keep up with TBR list. I’ll be posting tags here in my blog for the next few days because school doesn’t start until the 23rd of November so I have lots of time to read, write book reviews and blog posts! Let it be a productive reading month for me and my other fellow bookworms.

So here it is, my ginormous book haul! Which by the way I bought from the month of July to September. I don’t know why but I went a little bit crazy, I just bought a total of 56 books which doesn’t include the book that I bought for my little brother (coz he loves to read too).Oh I didn’t buy all of these books, some of them were sent to me by authors for review and some are prizes that I’ve won from  giveaways. YAY! Without further adieu, let’s get started…

ARCs (Advance Readers Copy) & Books sent by authors

Processed with VSCOcam with se3 preset

I was just looking for authors who were giving out free ARCs of their book, I just got lucky that the author of Omega Lizzy Ford was giving out copies for bloggers to review.

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

People around Bookstagram had been raving about this book, luckily our local bookstore was having a contest on twitter and guess what? I joined and i won this advance readers copy of Dumplin by Julie Murphy.

I know nothing about this book, this is my second prize in the giveaway our local bookstore was sponsoring. Infinite in between by Carolyn Mackler

This was sent to me by the author, Amy Finnegan, for review. I can’t wait to read it!

This book was sent by the author for review, and my review is now available here in my blog. Click here 🙂 I LOVE THIS BOOK!!

So I got these books randomly, I just thought that it  might be cool if I read other genres aside from YA and contemporary. Well for me, I pretty much enjoy books that are not popular or hyped because I can freely share my opinion about it. Oh there’s a classic by Jane Austen!

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

This is a shocker! I never thought that I would buy this series, EVER! I just think that I’m pretty satisfied with the whole movie trilogy that’s why I’ve been avoiding to buy it. Plus it’s not available in the popular bookstores here, I only bought it in a used-bookstore for only $6 for the whole trilogy! Hooray for that, I’m so happy that I finally have the copy of these books. 🙂

Books that i bought online

So here in the Philippines, some bookworms sell their used books via Instagram and we can easily transact with them by doing meet-ups. They sell their books at a very cheap price and the books are in good condition too.

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

Got these beauties for a very low price, $4 only! I have been eyeing Stolen for a very long time and thank god  I found an online shop where I can buy it for an affordable price and I saw The Boy Next Door and I knew that I had to have it too.

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

Lately, I’ve been addicted to Booktube and some of my favs raved about Beauty Queens by Libba Bray so I instantly thought, I GOTTA HAVE IT!!  And I also saw The Distance Between Us by Kasie West was on sale too, so I had to buy both of it.

Processed with VSCOcam with se3 preset

I was so happy that I found an online shop where the owner sells her used ARCs, so I had to buy these books! Some of the newer titles were sold out 😦

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

I’m studying at a university and every July they are host an event for students to join and participate in different booths and seminars, I never thought that the Political Science booth would have a book sale! I immediately run through the crowd and went straight to the book section because they were on sale!! I LOVE BOOK SALES

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

So I have been collecting these series for a very lobg time now I guess since I was in highshool. I really love horror stories especially when it’s all about urban legends and folklore. I got lucky that I have a friend that was going to MIBF and I asked her if she could buy me books from this publishing house so i can finally complete my collection. She was the kindest!

Processed with VSCOcam with a6 preset

My final haul for this month! I seriously went crazy because books were on sale for 20-50% off. Finally got the books that I’ve been dying to read, I was planning to buy more books but I had school projects that needs to be financed first.. Now I can say that I am really in a BOOK BUYING BAN until December! IT’S FINAL.

I hope you enjoy my collective book haul, I seriously need to start reading. I have a ton of books piled up on my TBR list, and I promised that I need to bring my TBR list to 0 by 2016. How do you keep track on your to-be-read list?
