Boy oh boy! It’s that time of the year again where I pick my top favorite books for the year. I seriously had a tough time choosing because I read 63 books and I have to tell you that it has been a great reading year for me. So many amazing books that I had the chance to read and so many great releases too! Though I didn’t had the time to actually read a lot of books in the second half of 2016 because I was so busy with school; loaded with paper works and thesis defense!
I also had a short hiatus from blogging and bookstagraming which later on resulted with me being unmotivated and uninspired to post anything. I’ll be posting a separate recap of my 2016, what happened to me this year, the lessons I’ve learned and all that good things.
So enough of the long introduction let’s get started!
-
Air Awakens by Elise Kova
I only read the first two books in the Air Awakens series this year which were Air Awakens & Fire Falling! I love everything about this series and I can’t wait to continue on with the rest of it. #TeamAldrik
-
Plain Vanilla by Ines Bautista-Yap
I totally adore this book! I love how I can relate to main character of this book, she was sort of the plain Jane but she wanted to do things outside of her comfort zone so she had to do these dares with her cousins and a cute boy… This was also by a Filipino author so I kinda dig these kind of stories.
-
Pretty Girl 13 by Liz Coley
Probably the best book I’ve read this year!!! It’s about a girl who was kidnapped and later on appeared in her town not knowing what happened to her in the past, she returned after 3 years. This is my first book where the main character has multiple personalities (DID).
-
The Divide by E.J. Mellow
Thank you so much E.J. for creating this wonderful world! One of the best fantasy series I have ever read, it has a unique plot, I mean you’re a badass heroine in your dreams OR in real life and the world building is utterly beautiful. If you haven’t read the Dreamland Series yet, what are you doing with your life? I still have to read the concluding novel for this series though but I do have a feeling that I will absolutely LOVE IT!!
-
milk and honey by rupi kaur
Beautifully written, every word made me feel every emotion that the poet was trying to convey. Poems about loss, trauma, healing, abuse, love and femininity, I loved everything…
-
Stalking Jack The Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco
Anything about Jack The Ripper? I’m sold! My first ever historical fiction book that I have read, I was hooked by the story line. I can’t wait for the next installment in this series!!!!
-
The Sun Is Also A Star by Nicola Yoon
Let’s all take a moment and appreciate the beauty of this cover! I love how diverse this book was, and to be honest this is the first time I didn’t mind that the was insta-love. Daniel Bae is such a cutie and I think I need more books by Nicola Yoon.
-
Everyone We’ve Been by Sarah Everett
I can’t deny how emotional and heartfelt the story was! I didn’t expect anything from this book but it gave me so much more. THIS BOOK DESERVES ALL THE LOVE FROM YOU MY FELLOW READERS, this book deserves to be known!
-
Tell Me Three Things by Julie Buxbaum
All kinds of cuteness and fluff! Tell Me Three Things made me happy in all the right ways. Just go read it!
-
How To Hang A Witch by Adriana Mather
It was vividly written, you can feel the warmth of the autumn season lingering through your senses, like you yourself is in the book and following the main character as she unfolds the dark truth about their town. The author has a very unique writing style and I LOVE IT!
Special Mentions!!!!
So here are some of the books I also enjoyed reading and will always have a special place in the mini library of my heart. 🙂 All of the books I mentioned in this post is a must read, no excuse for having a reading slump readers if you pick up one of these books you’ll surely get out of it!
That’s about it! The books that I loved and enjoyed reading this year, do you see any of your favorites too? If you have your own list /s comment them down below, I want to know what books made into your lists this 2016.
I haven’t read anything from your list, which I’m so disappointed with! I have loads on my tbr though, obviously I just read the wrong things this year 😛 Stalking Jack the Ripper and the Air Awakens series are ones I especially want to get to next year!

Milk & Honey has been on my TBR for quite a while. I’ve seen snippets of the poetry in that book and it takes my breath away! I also really want to read Nicola Yoon’s latest because I quite enjoy the premise.
A favourite for me this year was definitely ACOMAF and Empire of Storms by Sarah J. Maas!
Have a lovely new year 🙂 x

I am patiently waiting for Milk & Honey to become available in South Africa, but I am so excited to get my hands on it! I am thrilled for you to read the ACOTAR series! I’d advise that you wait for the third book though because I’m slowly losing my mind with the wait after ACOMAF *rocking back and fourth, clutching knees*
