Title: Since You’ve Been Gone
Author: Morgan Matson
Genre: YA Contemporary, Romance
Pages: 449
Edition/Publication: Paperback – Simon & Schuster Children’s
My Rating: 4.8/5
It was Sloane who yanked Emily out of her shell and made life 100% interesting. But right before what should have been the most epic summer, Sloane just…disappears. All she leaves behind is a to-do list.
On it, thirteen Sloane-inspired tasks that Emily would normally never try. But what if they could bring her best friend back?
Apple picking at night? Okay, easy enough.
Dance until dawn? Sure. Why not?
Kiss a stranger? Um…
Emily now has this unexpected summer, and the help of Frank Porter (totally unexpected), to check things off Sloane’s list. Who knows what she’ll find?
Go skinny-dipping? Wait…what?
“In a well-ordered universe…”
Wow! I really loved this book so much. It’s the perfect summer read for me.
At first I was having a hard time going through this book because of school and all the stress that life has been giving me lately but luckily I managed to finish it and OMG! Thank the Gods that I really did finish reading it, it was so amazing!
Best friends Sloane and Emily are just like twins, they would do things together, they can’t be seen separated from each other. Until one summer, Emily woke up and found out that Sloane was gone and left her a list of things she needs to do for the summer.
The plot was great, had a fun time reading this book. Morgan Matson is really the queen of summery contemporaries! It’s light and puts you on the perfect mood for some summer adventures with your friends, although it tackled some issues regarding family relationships and also friendship the author really handled it well. That book was kinda long and I was in a slow pace during the first two chapters but as I was continuing to read it the pacing worked for me. Oh I liked the playlists that was inserted in some of the chapters I just wished that there were also photos included in every thing they did in the list but all in all the story was written very well.
Emily’s character is literally me along time ago, she’s the introvert type that usually hides in the shadow of her best friend then came one day that her best friend was nowhere to be found and she had to do things on her own. We can all relate to Emily’s character, I mean we always have that awkward moment when we’re around people that we don’t usually know or talk to and sometimes we feel unwanted or we feel that we don’t belong. What I loved about her character is that she’s willing to find her own self, she has shown courage and bravery as she was trying to finish the list. She wanted to step out of her comfort zone and to try new things that she never did before. I didn’t get the chance to fully know the character of Sloane but I can only say that “just be true to yourself and all the people around you…”
“Real friends are the ones you can count on no matter what.
The ones who go into the forest to find you and bring you home.
And real friends never have to tell you that they’re your friends.”
I had fun reading this book! It seriously made me want to spend my summer vacation with my friends go on adventures and try new things. Indeed, MM did a fantastic job writing this novel! I HIGHLY recommend all of her books to all of you, you won’t regret it. 🙂
With love,
Beautiful review, Nicka! I wish I loved her Second Chance Summer though. I can’t bring myself to try her other works because of it. 😦

Wow! I was thinking of not picking this up because I didn’t want it to be unoriginal but now I think that I might try it out. I was intimidated by its size but big books need a chance to right?! RIGHT. Thanks for the amazing review!
