Salem, Massachusetts is the site of the infamous witch trials and the new home of Samantha Mather. Recently transplanted from New York City, Sam and her stepmother are not exactly welcomed with open arms. Sam is the descendant of Cotton Mather, one of the men responsible for those trials and almost immediately, she becomes the enemy of a group of girls who call themselves The Descendants. And guess who their ancestors were?

If dealing with that weren’t enough, Sam also comes face to face with a real live (well technically dead) ghost. A handsome, angry ghost who wants Sam to stop touching his stuff. But soon Sam discovers she is at the center of a centuries old curse affecting anyone with ties to the trials. Sam must come to terms with the ghost and find a way to work with The Descendants to stop a deadly cycle that has been going on since the first accused witch was hanged. If any town should have learned its lesson, it’s Salem. But history may be about to repeat itself.

A five star rating for this book is well-deserved! It made me more curious about the book when I read the author’s note, how awesome would it be to be a descendant of someone who made an impact in your hometown’s history. Basically, the author is related to Cotton Mather whoyou will later on meet in the story, if you read this book! READ IT NOW!

“History isn’t some distant remembrance in my family; it has a pulse.”

So let’s get on with the book! AHHH I love it so much! The plot is interesting, the whole story line that is happening about The Witch Trials in Salem which was horrible it kept me nailed on my seat and told myself that I have to finish this book in one sitting because I’m so hooked with the history ย of Salem and everything that happened in the past. I can’t get my hands off of this book, the mystery part of the book was indeed A+ for me, to be honest it made me feel a bit crept out when I was reading this late at night. Goosebumps!! I have to also mention the setting of this novel, it was vividly written, you can feel the warmth of the autumn season lingering through your senses, like you yourself is in the book and following the main character as she unfolds the dark truth about their town. The author has a very unique writing style and I LOVE IT!

“I recalled the reason I was in pain. Loss of beauty, of connection… When that beauty was blotted out of my world, I no longer wanted to be in it”

“You reminded me of that beauty again. Not in one minute of my death have I wished for my life back, until I meet you”

Need to remind you that I have a long list of book boyfriends but someone is going to be on the top of it right now, and I can’t believe myself that I was charmed by a ghost… I mean spirit. ELIJAH ROE he is so swoony and charming, his manner of speaking is what made me love his character more. This isn’t a romance novel but the romance in this book is just the right amount, I somehow find it cute and weird hehe.

BUT the ending, the ending broke my heart in an indescribable way. I was happy on how some things turned out butย I need more, I shall wait for the sequel, I still have hope that everything ย I wished to happen in the first book will happen in the sequel. I can’t wait for the next installment and I can’t wait for more of my Elijah! Do I recommend this to everyone? YES!!!

      1. Nop but since I read a book in high school about Salem I try to avoid reading others. The topic is always uncomfortable but this one sounds interesting! ๐Ÿ™‚
